How to Sell your bags on Vestiaire Collective? A Guide step-by-step

Have you got too many bags?

Are you looking to raise funds for a newer bag?

Are you looking to raise funds for a big bill/ purchase?

Are you worried to get scammed or undercut by resellers?

In 2025 I have completely changed my mindset and found that selling on Vestiaire can be quite an experience. With the decline in social sales via Facebook and other platrforms, the reputaion Vestiaire Collective has gained since 2009 (!) has definitely got my attention.

As with anything, it takes time and some trial and error to learn your way through listing and selling.

Here is a quick guide on how I do it, keep reading for some insider tips.

  1. a. Download the app, it's the quickest way to list, accept offers and respond quickly to potential buyers.

    1. You can login with your Google or Facebook account, make sure to stay logged in or re-login on the same account. You can gain badges for repetitive listing and successful transactions.

    2. Add a photo of yourself and update the app with your address and personal details. You would be asked to provide your bank details for when you get paid for sold items.

  2. And now for the real listing job. Although they offer some suggestions along the way on the required photos and more, here are the main ones:

    - Bag's Main photo need to a full frontal of the bag and any parts of it (straps etc)

    - The best photo which will help the item to be approved quicker is with the above suggestion & a white background. I use Photoroom and since I started removing the backgroud myself, the approval time has speeded up by 90%!

    - Main other photots are: both sides, bottom, corners, labels, made in labels, serial number and of course, defects.

  3. Now it's time to describe your item, please be honset! You might get hit with a return if the bag/ accessory is defective and that wasn't disclosed in your listing.

I once had a bag stopped by their quality/authentication team because it had a peeling internal pocket, which I never even used or opened... the buyer then had the right to decline my bag :-(

  4. After finding the bag's style on their system, or optiong for the ''Other'' style, you are asked to add measurments, accompanying documents or acccessories and you will be asked for a proof of purchase or an authentciation. Which again will add to the value and also the speed of approval of your item. you DO NOT have to supply either, as the team will inspect your photos before approving. Last tip, take clean and focused photos.

  5. Pricing, is the harderst part. If you price it too low, the buyers will lowball you even more. If you overprice, your item won't get views/offers. In my exprerience, don't go by VC suggestion, it's normally very underpriced. Bear in mind the buyer will need to pay fees on top of your requested price. You can also decide if you want to accept offers or not (change setting once the item has been approved, by pressing the cog icon on the app).

I think a bit of haggling keeps everyone on their toes, so you can always price it a bit higher, then accept an offer.

  6. Payment and shipping. I won't lie, but after packing and printing the label for your sold bag, it can be nerve wracking. Vestiaire allows the buyer 72hr (3 days) after the itme has been delivered to raise a concern or a dispute. This can be regarding authenticity OR condition. If your item went to an authentication centre, which the buyer paid for, this concern will be raised by them even faster. In Which case you might want to take the item back, or accept VC offer to sell it on your behalf.

You don't need to worry too much if the item is authentic and as described. In that case you will be paid within 5 business days after the item has been accepted (after the 72hr grace period I mentioned). So really, you need allow about 2 weeks for the process to be completed. Yes, it's slow!

Final thoughts :

  • It takes time, don't expect an instant sale/payment. Price and demand play a big factor.

  • The approval of your items can take upto 48hr, if you follow my guide, yours should get approved in 24hr. or even less!

  • Be honest with your description.

  • Be quick to respond to questions and price offers via the app chat option (turn on your notifications).

  • Don't be afraid to add more photos, especially if you have been asked about certain aspects that you forgot to photgraph initially. Press ''Add photos''.

  • Unfortunately you cannot edit the description, but you can add a comment under your item (''Add comment'').

  • You cannot change the price, but you can reduce it by pressing ''Drop price''. Remember, it cannot be undo...so think first.

  • Patience is key, you will get ghosted by potential buyers so don't take in personally.

  • Have fun and look at the end goal- money for a new bag or more ''serious'' purchase.

As always, feel free to leave a comment below and find your next bag organiser or shaper on my website.
